World Food Programme [WFP] & FreeRice.com
Today with the increase in globalization our world is now more connected than ever before and being a citizen of the United States no longer just means being a member of American society. It also means being a member and/or citizen of the global community. Citizenship to me means more than just belonging to a country it also means participation. That is why for the extra credit assignment during the time of my student teaching you will be given the opportunity to earn points by helping solve one of the global issues our world faces, hunger.
I have created a class group on Freerice.com that you can join after creating a free account. [Clicking on Freerice.com above will take you to the registration page on the website] The website is basically a trivia game you can pick any of the subjects [doesn't have to be social studies] and for every answer you get right ten grains of rice are donated to the World Food Programme, WFP. The website is supported by the United Nations so it is a creditable source, and all food earned is payed for by the sponsors who run ads on the site, so the only thing you will be giving is your time and knowledge.
